The city had provided few trash bins. (DC usually provides a large number of toilets and trash receptacles along march routes.) Yet remarkably little litter could be seen in the streets. People crushed their plastic water bottles and food wrappers and stuffed them in their pockets, and a few marchers picked up the occasional trash along the route.
Observations about the toilets and trash are noteworthy because, in my experience with and among large protest crowds in Washington, the large leftist crowds tend to be angry and leave trash in the streets and urine in the shrubs.
None of that anger showed in the January 6 crowd along Constitution Avenue.

U.S. President Donald Trump, irritated at being impeached for a second time, has told people to stop paying Rudy Giuliani’s legal fees, a person familiar with the matter tells CNN, though aides were not clear if the president was serious about his instructions given he’s lashing out at nearly everyone after the day’s events.
Trump became the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice on Wednesday, one week after a mob stormed the U.S. Capitol following a speech by the President that excoriated his supporters to fight against the counting of the electoral votes that would affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s win. The insurrection left five people dead, including one Capitol Police officer, and has left the nation’s capital and state capitols around the country preparing for potential violence as Biden is set to be inaugurated next week.
Trump has been blaming his longtime personal attorney and many others for the predicament he now finds himself in, though he has not accepted any responsibility in public or in private, people familiar with his reaction told CNN. Giuliani is still expected to play a role in Trump’s impeachment defense but has been left out of most conversations thus far.
Another source of Trump’s ire is House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who incensed Trump further on Wednesday by saying he bears responsibility for last week’s riot. The President had already been upset with McCarthy after the California Republican left the option of censuring Trump on the table in a letter to colleagues earlier this week.
The details about Giuliani’s legal fees were first reported by the Washington Post.
The President is now more isolated than ever. Several of his Cabinet secretaries — the ones who haven’t resigned in protest — are avoiding him, his relationship with the vice president remains fractured and several of his senior staffers are scheduled to depart their posts this week.

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in California after amassing $26.8 million of debt, according to a report from Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic.
Kane’s filing includes $10.2 million in assets. He signed a seven-year, $49 million contract extension with the Sharks in 2018.
The filing also included the possibility that Kane may not even play in the upcoming 2020-21 season, though he has been at Sharks camp practicing with the team. Neither Kane, nor his camp, has spoken publicly about possibly opting out of the season.
According to capfriendly, the 29-year-old has earned $52.9 million in team pay throughout his 11-year career. What may have led to Kane’s financial trouble was not spelled out in the filing, Kaplan writes.
The Vancouver native spent the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets franchise. He then played two and a half seasons with the Buffalo Sabres before a trade sent him to the Sharks during the 2017-18 season.

The president has spent the weeks since losing the November presidential contest spreading baseless claims that the balloting was tainted by massive fraud and that the election was stolen from him.
The only truth here is that , indeed , Trump has spoken daily on his thoughts and suspicions that the November / 9 election was fraught with fraud in specific jurisdictions … HOWEVER , it is strictly OPINION to state that the President is ” spreading ” ( in this context alluding to it being false ) and throwing in the adjective ” baseless ” , as there are pages upon pages of affidavits and reports of irregularities to the voting process from hundreds and hundreds of witnesses …
Numerous state and federal officials , including former U.S. attorney general William Barr , said there was no evidence of fraud on a scale massive enough to have affected the outcome.
Again , this is ONE man ( granted being in his position has the most access ) ACKNOWLEDGING THAT FRAUD OCCURRED but , IN HIS OPINION , not enough to alter the results of the voting …

Five people , including a Capitol police officer , died as a result of the onslaught.

As we begin 2021, with the usual hope and optimism, we must reflect on the year which has just passed, for 2020 also began on an extremely positive note. The economy was roaring, factories and jobs were coming back to America, the stock market was doing well, and unemployment among minorities and women was at the lowest rate ever recorded. Then “the plague” struck at the end of January, and subsequently, our world came crashing down around us; a situation which was only aggravated by George Floyd’s death.
All of us have seen and heard things during this past year that would have been unimaginable in 2019, but which today are almost a daily occurrence. We call these transformative events “the new normal.”
Examples of the new normal are all around us and affect all aspects of our lives. Defunding the police while crime skyrockets is the new normal. Prisoners being released back on the streets, while hairdressers and restaurant owners are fined and sometimes jailed, is the new normal. Big tech and mainstream media shutting down all voices opposing their agenda, while extolling the virtues of democracy and free speech, is the new normal. A CNN reporter describing demonstrators as “peaceful protesters,” while behind him the skyline burns, is the new normal. Closing down all restaurants, houses of worship, and small businesses while allowing protesters to burn, riot, and loot in the name of “social justice” is the new normal. Prisoners in certain states receiving the COVID vaccine while vulnerable seniors must wait is the new normal. The latest COVID Relief bill, which included only a paltry sum in relief for tens of millions of desperate Americans, while granting billions in foreign aid, is the new normal …
