A professional football club in Australia has apologised after promoting a singles night for straight people only at one of its games.
The Western Sydney Wanderers on Monday announced their April 4 match against Perth Glory would be a singles night. In an advertisement, the A-League club said ‘everyone is welcome’ to the night, but added: ‘Please note this is a heterosexual event.’
After the advert sparked a fierce reaction on social media, with some commentators alleging it breached anti-discrimination laws, the Wanderers apologised, saying the controversial wording had been removed.
But while they insisted ‘no-one is excluded’, the club appeared to stand by their plan that the event is designed for heterosexuals only, and said they could host singles nights for LGBTQI fans in future.

Now that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s inaction on dealing with the attempted shut down of Canada is hurting KBec , I have to wonder if he will change his tune on the pipeline and resource project. The pipeline and LNG port had already received special treatment from the federal government.
When TransCanada wanted to build their Energy East pipeline and bring Western Canadian oil to Eastern Canada — both for export and to replace foreign imports in Ontario , KBec and Atlantic Canada — the Trudeau government brought in new rules … Energy East was going to be required to account not only for the greenhouse gas emissions created in getting the oil out of the ground and into the pipeline but all the greenhouse gases when the oil was used , wherever that was in the world.
It was shortly after that announcement that TransCanada pulled the plug.
As KBec media first reported and I later confirmed in March 2018 , that test never applied to the GNL Énergie Saguenay project …

Taking advantage of Google’s insta-facts , I now know that American Samoa , as the crow ( or more likely , gull ) flies is 6,011 miles from mainland U.S.A. Thus Mr. Bloomberg’s prodigal and prodigious superspending had its only possible impact on a remote tropical cluster ( five islands , two atolls ) with a total land mass of 76.8 square miles. It is 15 square miles smaller than my own dear Fogo Island , in the less tropical but more vivid waters of the North Atlantic.
Of course the over $500 million he spent was not solely directed to this distant haven. It was brutally wasted in all the Super Tuesday states , hiring strategists and paying for polling , a neat Soviet blitz of campaign ads , and staff for Bloomberg offices in all the key states. Had he instead looked at the reality of his candidacy — an unattractive candidate , ego-pumping millions from his Croesus-level vaults — he would have known that in its naked excess , its boast on the power of dollar bills , it was a vulgarity. A vulgarity far beyond Donald Trump’s showmanship and verbal displays. Trump’s vulgarity , if you wish to call it that , is a matter of style , it may even be a matter of tactics. Attempting to buy the highest office in the land is vulgarity of character.
A campaign whose unspoken slogan was “ I’m super-rich ; I have $60 billion and you don’t. I can buy the presidency ” had to strike a brittle note among those working for a wage , and set teeth grinding for those unemployed and only hoping to find employment.
We had our own version of the money-vanity campaign here in Canada. Kevin O’Leary confused his bank account with evidence of political appeal and thought he could be Canada’s Trump. You saw where that went. Not to say , however , that he couldn’t have swept Fogo.
It was , in Bloomberg’s case , quite gratifying to see him lose , and to lose so thoroughly. It was incredibly arrogant and an insult to U.S. democracy for him to think he could buy his way into the White House.
In the meantime he owes American Samoa a thank-you visit. And perhaps an apology for not sending the whole bundle , all 500 million plus , there in the first place , instead of scattering it over the land on the winds of his own vanity. He thought he was going to be a headliner and instead , in the story of American politics , he will be the smallest of footnotes.
