If Trudeau needs a Ministry of Whatever , he simply invents one …

There have been many social media jokes — many of them fitting — as to why Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not appoint a Minister of Silly Walks ?…

B.C. MP Joyce Murray — a Commons fixture since 2008 who slid into Treasury Board before the election when former MP Jane Philpott resigned on principle for the firing and ouster of Jody Wilson-Raybould — becomes the very first Minister of Digital Government.

She’s a devout anti-pipeliner , of course , so if Trudeau wanted her hidden away and hands-off the anti-energy prattle , then consider it a job done.

Back when few were looking too closely , Canada apparently signed the 2018 D9 Charter with eight countries — Great Britain and Mexico being the only major ones, but no United States — with the intention of solidifying “ our commitment to exploring how digital government can provide services and benefits that citizens want and need.”

While it is likely outside Murray’s purview , perhaps she can use her digital governance to take on the digital giants like American-based Google , Facebook and other behemoths sucking billions of advertising dollars annually out of our economy and not paying a single penny in taxes.

Once upon a distant time , for example, newspapers were able to staff their newsrooms with the best journalists out there , and have foreign bureaus all over the globe , but those days became yesterday’s news when Google and Facebook began siphoning off their advertising dollars tax-free.

Today it could use its own minister.

The Minister of Digital Takeback would be nice.

The Internet has already all but killed off brick-and-mortar retail shops.

Its work , however, has only just begun …
