With the death of a 16-month-old boy who spent nine hours in a hot car in Burnaby , B.C. , people are wondering what can be done to prevent such an incident from happening again — especially as temperatures rise for the summer.

Technology is available to notify parents when they leave children in their vehicles’ back seats — but one expert who has focused on the issue cautioned that such innovations are not the only solution , nor even necessarily the best one.

As many as seven children have died in hot cars between 2003 and 2018. The Burnaby child’s death is the first such incident to take place this year , according to KidsandCars.org , a website that documents incidents involving children being left unattended in vehicles.

Meanwhile , in the United States , an average of 38 hot car deaths happens every year in the United States , according to NoHeatStroke.org , a website that tracks child vehicular heatstroke deaths.

There were 52 ( ! ) child vehicular heatstroke deaths in the U.S. last year , according to that site.

That was the most that took place in any year going back to 1998. The numbers have climbed in each of the past three years.

He applauds technological answers to the problem of vehicular heatstroke deaths and “ every life that they might save.”

The director marked the achievement on Wednesday night by tweeting a picture showing the Avengers logo in the sea, in place of an iceberg , sinking the Titanic once more.

A Hindu temple president convicted of sexual assault allegedly offered to pay off the woman who accused him in order to have all charges dropped.

This is according to a written court document by Justice Jennifer Woollcombe …

Parveen Sharma was the president of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault alleged to have taken place on October 2 and 3 , in 2015.

The 25-year-old victim had met Sharma through the temple. She was looking for an apartment to rent.

Sharma became her landlord in August 2015 when she moved into the basement apartment of his home where he lived with his wife … ( Isn’t that handy ! ) She was a tenant until October 4 , 2015 , the day after the second sexual assault allegation.

The victim claims that Sharma forcibly fondled , then raped her.

According to the statement from the judge , Sharma had attempted to get himself out of a conviction before the trail.

In the days leading up to the trial , the temple’s head priest , Adhay Dev Sharma , met with the victim. He asked if she would accept $50,000 to drop the allegations.

Dev Sharma testified , claiming that it was the victim who had initiated the meeting and asked him for $50,000. He also claimed that he didn’t know about the charges the president was facing when he met with her.

At the trail , the victim denied initiating this meeting and asking for any money. Justice Woollcombe took the side of the victim.

She wrote in her decision : ” He is the one who instigated the meeting , clearly prepared to discuss payment to the complainant. It seems to me that the only conclusion to reach from his evidence is that he wanted to explore whether or not the complainant was open to taking a payment to make the charges go away.”

Judge Woollcombe rejected Dev Sharma’s testimony saying it ” defies any logic “.

Let’s hear it for Judge Woolcombe ! …

Overview

[1] The accused, Parveen Sharma , is charged with two counts of sexual assault alleged to have taken place on October 2 and 3 , 2015.  He pleaded not guilty to both counts and had a six day trial before me.

[2] The 25 year old complainant met the accused through her Temple. She was looking for an apartment to rent. He was the much older President of the Temple. He became her landlord in August 2015 when she moved into the basement apartment of the home in which he lived with his wife. She remained a tenant until October 4 , 2015 , the day after the second sexual assault allegation.

[3] There are two issues to be decided. The first is whether the Crown has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that there was non-consensual sexual activity between the complainant and the accused on October 2, 2015. The second is whether the Crown has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the complainant did not consent to the sexual activity that is acknowledged to have taken place between them on October 3, 2015.

[4]  At trial , the Crown adduced evidence from the complainant and her cousin , to whom she first disclosed allegations against the accused.

[5] The accused did not testify. On his behalf , the defence adduced evidence from his wife , from the head priest at his Temple , and from one police officer.

The FBI’s sworn story to a federal court about its asset , Christopher Steele , is fraying faster than a $5 souvenir T-shirt bought at a tourist trap.

Newly unearthed memos show a high-ranking government official who met with Steele in October 2016 determined some of the Donald Trump dirt that Steele was simultaneously digging up for the FBI and for Hillary Clinton’s campaign was inaccurate , and likely leaked to the media.

The concerns were flagged in a typed memo and in handwritten notes taken by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec on Oct. 11 , 2016.

Her observations were recorded exactly 10 days before the FBI used Steele and his infamous dossier to justify securing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act ( FISA ) warrant to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and the campaign’s contacts with Russia in search of a now debunked collusion theory.

It is important to note that the FBI swore on Oct. 21 , 2016 , to the FISA judges that Steele’s “ reporting has been corroborated and used in criminal proceedings ” and the FBI has determined him to be “ reliable ” and was “ unaware of any derogatory information pertaining ” to their informant , who simultaneously worked for Fusion GPS , the firm paid by the Democratic National Committee ( DNC ) and the Clinton campaign to find Russian dirt on Trump.

That’s a pretty remarkable declaration in Footnote 5 on Page 15 of the FISA application, since Kavalec apparently needed just a single encounter with Steele at State to find one of his key claims about Trump-Russia collusion was blatantly false …

In her typed summary , Kavalec wrote that Steele told her the Russians had constructed a “ technical/human operation run out of Moscow targeting the election ” that recruited emigres in the United States to “ do hacking and recruiting ”…

She quoted Steele as saying … “ Payments to those recruited are made out of the Russian Consulate in Miami ” according to a copy of her summary memo obtained under open records litigation by the conservative group Citizens United. Kavalec bluntly debunked that assertion in a bracketed comment ..: “ It is important to note that there is no Russian consulate in Miami ”…

Rep. Mark Meadows ( R-N.C. ) , a member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee and ranking member of its Subcommittee on Government Operations , told me late Thursday he had confirmed with U.S. officials that Kavalec’s memo was forwarded to the FBI in the Oct. 13 , 2016 , email.

“ This once again shows officials at the FBI and ( Department of Justice ) DOJ were well aware the dossier was a lie — from very early on in the process all the way to when they made the conscious decision to include it in a FISA application ” he said. “ The fact that Christopher Steele and his partisan research document were treated in any way seriously by our Intelligence Community leaders amounts to malpractice ”…

Steele offered Kavalec other wild information that easily could have been debunked before the FISA application — and eventually was , in many cases , after the media reported the allegations — including that :

• Trump lawyer Michael Cohen traveled to Prague to meet with Russians ;
• Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort owed the Russians $100 million and was the “ go-between ” from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Trump ;
• Trump adviser Carter Page met with a senior Russian businessman tied to Putin ;
• The Russians secretly communicated with Trump through a computer system.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report , released last month , dispelled all those wild theories while hardly mentioning Steele , except for a passing reference to his dossier being “ unverified ”… That’s significant , because the FISA request from October 2016 that rested heavily on Steele’s information was marked “ verified application ” before the FBI submitted it to the court.

And the whole FBI’s Steele story falls apart …

Kavalec’s memo clearly warned that Steele had admitted his client was “ keen ” to get his information out before Election Day. In other words , he had a political , rather than an intelligence , deadline …

Social media, when used appropriately , is a powerful tool. It serves a utilitarian purpose by enabling the free exchange of ideas and information to a wide audience immediately without censorship. Objectively speaking , it is the ultimate “ humanizer ” … Egalitarian , neutral and democratic in every sense of the word …

The problem is that millennials and the upcoming Generation Z have bastardized social media by using it as a weapon; not with guns and bombs , but rather with the selfie … It’s this passive-aggressive post ( we’ve all seen it ) , on a beautiful beach somewhere swimming with dolphins, with the caption “ wish you were here ”…  Or in other words … “ Look how great my life is compared to yours ”… We know it’s complete BS , and only a projection of the poster’s own insecurity. We also know that , in many cases , the person is likely in massive debt.

So how did we get here? Let’s take a small step back to examine. Did millennials invent the selfie , or was it Paris Hilton? You could argue the first “ selfie ” was actually that of Robert Cornelius , in 1839. The early “ camera ” process was so slow , it took a full minute to capture the light, thus giving Robert plenty of time to uncover the lens , run into the frame and re-cover it.

But the word “ selfie ” is actually credited to an Australian man , Nathan Hope , who in 2002 posted a picture online of his busted lip from partying the night before. It then entered the millennial lexicon …

The women ( girls ) are the worst … These same broads are the ones screaming about men being pigs and how they’ve been exploited sexually by them … Then they pose for their own cameras in their bedrooms and send their asses out into the internet …
