Oscar Wilde was not a man you wanted on your bad side. A man of great intellect, piercing wit, and the gift of absolutely devastating quips, Wilde could eviscerate his opponents and critics using only his razor-sharp tongue.

Still, when Wilde was confronted by braying trolls who were mentally unequipped to appreciatethe subtleties of his scathing rhetoric, we’d like to imagine that he would instead wait for the buffoons in a darkened alley with a nail-studded truncheon and give them a sound thrashing about the head and shoulders to more effectively point out the errors in their blighted logic.

And this is the position we find ourselves in today, at least rhetorically. Because after watching what the Senate Democrats did on Wednesday to Attorney General Barr, a good and honorable man, we find ourselves without much of a sense of humor today. Our thoughts are instead drifting towards more kinetic and unconventional procedures for restoring something like decorum, dignity, and common decency to the Grand Guignol proceedings in Washington.

“Questioners” (who had very few actual questions, but a lot of unsubstantiated accusations and insults) included presidential wannabees like Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, as well as some
ilio wahine from Hawaii whose only conceivable public service to the people of her stinking, socialist island would involve appeasing the volcano gods with a personal sacrifice. And yes, she’s old – but based on her appearance and personality, we’re guessing that she still meets the minimum qualifications required for the job (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

See, we’re still trying to joke here…but what we really feel is an all-consuming anger at these smug and morally vacuous liars and hypocrites. These are people who are still – STILL – trying to pull off a Presidential coup d’etat in the United States of America. Which isn’t something that any of us should take lightly…or forgivingly.

It is our great hope that Attorney General Barr, who endured the appalling partisan abuse with great poise and intelligence, will use this despicable incident to stoke his own internal fires…the ones whose flames will soon be roaring under the feet of many in the Obama administration, the Clinton circle, and the traitorous intelligence agencies that did their best to end our nation’s democracy.

All of them need to be brought to trial by Mr. Barr. And after due process has been carried out and verdicts reached, appropriate punishment must be meted out. Even if, per today’s cartoon, what’s “appropriate” may involve bringing back some historical methodologies which lacked subtlety, but clearly demonstrated that treason is not a game you want to play and lose.

Actor Peter Mayhew , who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films , has died.

Mayhew’s family said in a statement Thursday that he died at his home in Texas on Tuesday. He was 74. No cause of death was given.

The seven-foot-three Mayhew played the shaggy , towering Chewbacca — sidekick to Han Solo and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon — in the original Star Wars trilogy.

It seems so long ago … I remember being involved in a high school wide contest in my Grade 11 year decorating the classroom doors for Christmas … Star Wars had just come out and it was a big hit … The homeroom teacher ( math teacher ) , knowing he had several artists in the class ( myself being one , another chap named Carl and a young lady who’s name has escaped my memory ) … Came up with the idea to play with the title movie poster , switching the big rising font of ‘ Star Wars ‘ to ‘ Star of Peace ‘ …

The young lassie did a wonderful job rendering the three wise men , taken from another animated Christmas flick , Carl set up the black ‘ space background with stars ( removing eevil Darth of course ) , added a couple small planets and the bold rising letters of ‘ Star of Peace ‘ in that iconic Star Wars font …

They both felt that it was right up my alley to take on the main portion of Leia , Luke and light saber  … Which Mr Stein of course , suggested I alter to Luke cupping a bright star with both hands … And I enthusiastically took on the project …

As per usual in my high school days , I pretty much shirked the task until the last possible day and had to pass on the usual get together with my buddies for a few beers and a hockey game , summon the creative juices to get ‘er done …

The panel of judges ( fellow students and a couple of teachers ) told us a few days later that we won the contest hands down …

China became Canada’s biggest market , buying upwards of $4 billion worth of product in 2018 , according to a Canada West analysis.

But if it wanted to cut out Canadian canola entirely , China could simply find another market from which to buy , Pittman says. Canada , on the other hand , would be hard pressed to find anywhere else to sell the product—especially in such quantity.

Nor could Canada do much damage to the Chinese economy by engaging in a trade war—even if Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is calling on Ottawa to consider ‘ reciprocal ‘ trade tactics as his province’s farmers feel the negative effects.

“ We’re a flea sitting on China’s shoulder. The only reason we have their attention at all is because a very important person from China is suffering because of the extradition proceedings ” says Daniel Trefler , a professor of economic analysis and policy at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Abbotsford, B.C.-native Robert Schellenberg had his 15-year prison sentence for drug-related charges in China appealed—by the state—and was later sentenced to the death penalty in a rushed re-trial.

On Tuesday , a second Canadian was given to a death sentence for drug-related charges , according to the South China Morning Post—six years after his trial first began.

Clinton failed to report about $6,500 in profits to the IRS. She initially lied about her investment windfall by claiming she made the wagers herself. She even fantastically alleged that she mastered cattle futures trading by reading financial newspapers.

To paraphrase Clinton herself , anyone else would have been indicted for far less.

The reason that foreign oligarchs are no longer donating millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation , and that Bill Clinton is not being offered $500,000 for speaking appearances in Moscow, is simply because Hillary Clinton is not secretary of state. She is no longer in a public position to hector her colleagues into approving pro-Russian commercial deals , such as the one that gave Russian interests access to North American uranium.

As secretary of state , Clinton also sidestepped the law by setting up a home-brewed email server. She transmitted classified documents over this insecure route and lied about it. And she destroyed some 30,000 emails that were in effect under subpoena. Anyone else would have been indicted for far less.

In truth , Clinton was at the heart of the entire Russian collusion hoax. Even after the election, she kept fueling it to blame Russia-Trump conspiracies for her stunning defeat in 2016. Unable to acknowledge her own culpability as a weak and uninspiring candidate , Clinton formally joined the post-election ” resistance ” and began whining about collusion. That excuse seemed preferable to explaining why she blew a huge lead and lost despite favorable media coverage and superior funding.

For much of her professional life , Hillary Clinton had acted above and beyond the law on the assumption that as the wife of a governor , as first lady of the United States , as a senator from New York , as secretary of state and as a two-time candidate for the presidency , she could ignore the law without worry over the consequences.

For Clinton now to project that the president should be indicted suggests she is worried about her own potential indictment. And she is rightly concerned that for the first time in 40 years , neither she nor her husband is serving in government or running for some office , and therefore could be held accountable.

Again I state … It will be most enjoyable to see this get to where it appears to going …

Why ? Because Barr stepped up to serve , thoughtfully summarized , redacted and released a report he was not legally required to release , volunteered to testify before members of Congress about it , and then faced a bait-and-switch. Suddenly he was being treated like a criminal or witness of questionable character , subject to interrogation by outside counsel.

When the attorney general of the United States , in his second tour of duty , resisted this House Democratic trick , Nadler pulled the subpoena and contempt threat. Barr then decided not to come to the Thursday hearing.

This is what the U.S. House of Representatives has come to –McCarthy-era tactics , regular abuse of committee process and powers , shutting down fellow representatives , bait-and-switch ploys , subpoenas and contempt threatened daily , issued after witnesses volunteer to testify.

I certainly agree with Barr’s decision … He carried out his ‘ duty ‘ … He made himself available for ‘ questions ‘ … He got some reasonable queries from the Republicans … And even the odd one or two from a couple of Dems … Which he offered clarification …

But upon witnessing it quickly devolve into a media promo for the Democraps to insult and accuse Barr personally , he wisely saw it for the waste of time , circus act that it was and told them to stuff Thursday’s ‘ get together ‘ up their collective buttholes …

Hillary Clinton recently editorialized about the second volume of special counsel Robert Mueller’s massive report. She concluded of the report’s assorted testimonies and inside White House gossip concerning President Trump’s words and actions that ” any other person engaged in those acts would certainly have been indicted “.

Psychologists might call her claims ” projection “. That is the well-known psychological malady of attributing bad behavior to others as a means of exonerating one’s own similar , if not often even worse , sins.

After 22 months of investigation and $34 million spent , the Mueller report concluded that there was no Trump-Russia collusion … The main focus of the investigation … Even though that unfounded allegation dominated print and televised media’s speculative headlines for the last two years.

While Mueller’s report addressed various allegations of Trump’s other roguery , the special counsel did not recommend that the president be indicted for obstruction of justice in what Mueller had just concluded was not a crime of collusion.

Now here’s where Mueller displays his prejudice … Pay attention …

What Mueller strangely did do , and what most federal prosecutors do not do , was cite all the allegedly questionable behavior of a target who has just been de facto exonerated by not being indicted.

And I’ll add that this is not the ONLY thing the Dems are now flogging to death , for want of having nothing else … And Mueller was meticulous in setting that premise up for them !!! …

What Mueller did not do was explain that much of the evidence he found useful was clearly a product of unethical and illegal behavior. In the case of the false charge of ‘ collusion ‘ the irony was rich.

Russians likely fed salacious but untrue allegations about Trump to ex-British spy Christopher Steele , who was being paid in part by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee to find dirt on Trump.

The Russians rightly assumed that Steele would lap up their fantasies , seed them among Trump-hating officials in the Barack Obama administration and thereby cause hysteria during the election , the transition and, eventually , the Trump presidency.

Russia succeeded in sowing such chaos , thanks ultimately to Clinton , who likely had broken federal laws by using a British national and , by extension , Russian sources to warp an election. Without the fallacious Steele dossier , the entire Russian collusion hoax never would have taken off.

Without Steele’s skullduggery , there likely would have been no Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court-approved surveillance of Trump aide Carter Page. There might have been no FBI plants inserted into the Trump campaign. There might have been no subsequent leaking to the press of classified documents to prompt a Trump collusion investigation.

Given the Steele travesty and other past scandals , it is inexplicable that Clinton has not been indicted.

Well here’s looking forward to seeing that happen … Preferably in the near future ! … Right around late September … Early October … It will be an absolute RIOT watchin’ Trump make Gropin’ Joe dance to that tune !!! …

After the hearing , House Democrats took turns denouncing Barr to reporters outside the hearing room …

” As a former police chief … it was painful and disgraceful to see the nation’s top cop abandon his responsibilities , to allow an empty chair to speak for him this morning ” said Florida Congresswoman Val Demings.

Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas said Nadler’s approach showed the Democrats were willing to work with the administration and weren’t rushing toward impeachment of either Barr or Trump.

Tennessee’s Steve Cohen opted for theatre , bringing a rubber chicken to emphasize Barr’s reluctance to testify …

The Bottom Line ( which the Dems simply … cannot … accept ) …

The report , almost two years ( 22 months , actually , but with copious amounts of data collected from 9 months of numerous investigations by, FISA courts , CIA , FBI and DOJwise … ) in the making , detailed a series of acts by Trump to impede the probe, but did not conclude whether those actions constituted the crime of obstruction. It did find that Trump and his campaign did not engage in a criminal conspiracy with Moscow.

Oh wait ! … Who could have guessed ?!!! …

Former U.S. vice-president Joe Biden , among those seeking the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential nomination , on Wednesday night called for Barr’s resignation, the Washington Post reported.

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris , also running for the nomination , also called for him to step down.

Liberals accused of SNC-Lavalin illegal donation cover-up …

OTTAWA — Conservatives accused Liberals of a different sort of SNC-Lavalin cover-up in question period Tuesday after a report revealed the names of employees involved in the Montreal firm’s illegal attempts to influence Canadian politics between 2004 and 2011.

A CBC investigation revealed new details about the scheme and listed for the first time individuals accused of indirectly funnelling almost $110,000 of the company’s money to the Liberal Party , and another $8,000 to the Conservative Party. The parties became aware of the lists during a 2016 investigation by the Commissioner of Canada Elections.

CBC’s The Fifth Estate reported that it obtained the names from a leaked confidential document , which Côté had sent to the Liberal Party in 2016. It lists 18 former SNC-Lavalin employees or their spouses who donated almost $110,000 to Liberal Party riding associations and leadership campaigns. The commissioner’s investigation revealed the company reimbursed the donors , which is illegal.

SNC-Lavalin also made about $8,000 worth of contributions to the Conservative Party in this way , as recently as 2011. Since 2004 it has been illegal for corporations to donate to federal parties at all.

In the compliance agreement with the commissioner in 2016, the company agreed not to break the law again. Lists of names went to the Liberals and Conservatives so they could reimburse the receiver general for the associated donations , which both did. CBC reported that Tories provided the names when asked, but Liberals repeatedly refused.

The compliance agreement itself , which is available on the commissioner’s website, states that SNC-Lavalin implemented compliance measures and mechanisms as recommended by elections officials. But it did not preclude individuals from being charged as a result of the then-ongoing investigation. One former SNC-Lavalin vice president was ultimately charged for the breaches in May 2018. Normand Morin pled guilty to two violations of the Canada Elections Act in November, for “ collusion ” with senior executives on behalf of political parties, and paid a $2,000 fine.

In 2014, Tory MP Dean Del Mastro faced criminal prosecution and served jail time for financial violations of the Elections Act that involved considerably less money.

“ It just boggles the mind that the so-called watchdog of elections would not have taken the ( SNC ) matter to court and prosecuted that offence ” Pierre Poilievre told reporters after question period. “ It’s insane. He’s got a lot of explaining to do.”

Just like Trump is sorting out the Deep State Swamp down south … We need to elect someone this coming November to deal with this Deep Province bullshit up here …

Canada’s new cigarette packages …

A brown box showing an image like a diseased mouth with a dire warning about cancer , and only a small label for the brand , will soon be the norm for cigarettes across Canada.

Health Canada says cigarette packs will have to be plain drab brown with standardized layouts and lettering, starting in November.

Health Canada picked the same dark brown for the packages as Australia did for its tobacco products a few years ago , one identified by market researchers as the ugliest colour in the world. Several European countries have used the colour as well.

“ Packages with darker colours were perceived to be more ‘ harmful to health ’ and their products ‘ harder to quit ’, in contrast to packages with lighter colours ” the department said in a summary of the plans.

The government says the new plain packages will increase the impact of graphic health warnings about the dangers of smoking , keeping them from getting lost amid colourful designs and branding.

The regulations released Wednesday also standardize the size and appearance of cigarettes , cigars and other tobacco products inside the packages – effectively eliminating extra-long or “ slim ” cigarettes.

They keep doin’ this sort of crap , yet people still smoke … If everyone did quit … The politicians , especially the Minister of Finance would be shittin’ themselves over the loss of HUGE tax revenue !!! …

And exactly , in this day and age of blaming certain groups of people collectively ( mostly white males currently !!! ) , for everyone else’s problems and costs , why aren’t we holding the Indigenous native North American Indians responsible for this entire fiasco for the tobacco health issues ?!!! … They were the first stupid bastards to suck smoke from burniing dry leaves into their lungs !!! … Our ‘ not so bright ‘ European ancestors thought they ‘ discovered ‘ something ! …

I said over 20 years ago … They should just declare cigarette / cigar / pipe smoking illegal for anyone aged 25 or young on that specific day ( any one 21 – 25 that was smoking could quit and do themselves a favour anyway ) … Let everyone else just carry on , business as usual , and eventually we’ll all crap out and that would be it …

This would allow those of us who have paid evil amounts of taxes for our habit to not go thru withdrawals or descend into the underground market that would certainly evolve quickly … And at the same time give the cigarette manufacturers time to transform their workforce and machinery into something to produce a healthier product. This would lesson the impact economically …

Packaging like this will no doubt remove the ‘ allure ‘ of a young non smoker deciding to try cigs for the first time and deter many from starting … And that’s a good thing …

WASHINGTON — Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein submitted his resignation Monday after a two-year run defined by his appointment of a special counsel to investigate connections between U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia.

His last day will be May 11 , ending a tumultuous relationship with Trump and a tenure that involved some of the most consequential , even chaotic , moments of the president’s administration.

When Trump wanted to fire then-FBI Director James Comey , who was overseeing the Russia probe, Rosenstein wrote the memo that the White House used to justify the dismissal. But eight days later, Rosenstein took a step that Trump feared would end his presidency: appointing Robert Mueller as special counsel. The move made Rosenstein the frequent target of Republican wrath and angry Trump tweets and left him repeatedly appearing on the verge of being fired.

Hard to figure out if Rod’s OK , or a ‘ Deep Stater ‘ at this point ( still ) … Yet in the end , it appears he was largely in Trump’s corner.

He joined Attorney General William Barr in determining that Trump had not obstructed the Mueller investigation — reaching a conclusion that Mueller himself pointedly did not make. He defended Barr against criticism that he was spinning Mueller’s findings in the president’s favour and stood silently behind him as Barr praised Trump’s co-operation at a news conference before a redacted version of the report was released.

I watched the whole proceeding live at 10:00 a.m. my time … I was hopin’ Barr really slammed people shut without a sweat … Nut he did ‘ stumble ‘ a few time , althought I saw no reason for him to … A couple occansions he stammered somewhat , seemingly attempting to be TOO helpful to some of the Democrap senators …

But , while the Dems were continually harping the same vague innuendo , the Repulicans , under the chairmanship of Lindsay Graham did a good job of pointing out ‘ bottom line ‘ points of fact …

The Dems , after not getting their way AGAIN , set out to discredit William Barr … What’s next … We get a 2 year pluis investigation into Barr now ?!!! …

On several occasions I did get my anticipated chuckles when I got to hear Bill , after hear a long winded , guilt pointing question aske ( where the person inquiring fully want to hear ‘ yes ‘ ) simply quite ‘ matter of fact ‘ bluntly ‘ saying  ‘ NO ‘ … I don’t have to do that at all …

Now the rest of the evening’s entertainment is to bounce around from station to station , media outlet , and newspaper response to what I just witnessed live on TV …And see how each outled ‘ spins ‘ it …

Remember folks … The vast majority long ago thru ‘ reporting news ‘ out the window … It’s now a public onslaught of their partisan bias  opinions …

Sports Illustrated has announced that their 2019 Swimsuit edition , best known for showing voluptuous women modeling dental floss , is making history by including a model wearing a hijab and ” burkini ” – a full body covering which , when fully saturated , pretty much assures that the wearer will sink like a stone. Which , presumably , is better than being stoned for having an exposed belly button.

The young Somali-American model from ( surprise ! ) Minnesota is unquestionably attractive , and her colorful outfits are appealing even if entirely impractical for anything remotely like swimming. Which perhaps explains why she’s photographed frollicking in an inch of water like a flopping fish..

We understand and even support the idea of inclusiveness , but find this particular example to be an uncomfortable hypocrisy. It’s hard to interpret the hijab and burkini as anything other than condemnations of the stone-worthy women who are modeling more revealing swimsuits.
