There’s far more pressing items on the agenda than this nonsense !!! …

First of all , the playoff picture for our , otherwise rising young stars , is careening into the dark side of the moon !!! …

I’d have to say , if we can finally break the curse of my second favorite team , the Boston Bruins , they have to face the runaway winners of the President’s Trophy … The Tampa Bay Lightning …

At one point down 4 – 0  , then ultimately spanked 6 – 2 , kinda looks like they’ll need night vision goggles to find the tee-off for the first hole mid April …

But now we have this crap hittin’ the news …

The NHL has launched an investigation into the possible use of a homophobic slur in the Leaf / Lightning game Monday night.

4:55 A.M. We need lotsa this down to the wire … MOMENTUM !!! …

CALGARY — This could have been 6-4 … For either team.

Rather than a comfortable 6-2 victory that delighted the Leafs supporters who mixed plenty of blue into the “ C of Red ” Monday would have looked a lot different if not for Frederik Andersen.

9:12 A.M. Maple Leafs embarrass Oilers …

6 – 2 Leafs …

The Oilers dominated the first period , but scored just once. The Leafs dominated the opening eight minutes of the second period , and scored four times.

It’s the difference between an NHL team with a shot at a Stanley Cup run , and an Oilers club playing out the string with too many AHL players, average goaltending , and an inability to look at a roster like Toronto’s and truly believe it can win.

Sure , we’re talkin’ the Edmonton Oilers … But the Leafs want to get on a roll here and fly into the playoffs with enough scary offence to make the Bruins a little edgy !!! …

5:33 A.M. Maple Leafs rally back from three goals …

I was a little late in my intention to watch the game … I had already missed the opening 10 or so minutes of the game … I went downstairs and asked my buddy if the any score and he had to spit out 3 – 0 for Montreal !!! …

So , knowing the Leafs’ history of luck with the Montreal Horseshoe-Up-The-Ass Canadiens … I didn’t bother watchin’ it … I’ve got no beer … Why get pissed off as well !!! …

As it would happen , I must have slept in a lousy position … I awoke at 3:20 or so with my back really amped up in the pain level department … I turned on the already prepared coffee maker and came in here to fire up the computer …

Lo and behold .. Leafs 6 … Montreal 3 !!! … A little ‘ pain killer ‘ for the busted up spine …

Zach Hyman scored his first of two goals with 1:50 remaining in the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a three-goal comeback to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 6-3 at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.

Hyman put in a rebound at the side of the goal crease from Mitchell Marner’s shot to give the Maple Leafs a 4-3 lead … William Nylander and Auston Matthews each had a goal and an assist , Tyler Ennis and Andreas Johnsson scored and Frederik Andersen made 32 saves for Toronto ( 37-20-4 ) , which ended a three-game losing streak.

” The way that we won the game coming from behind , it’s awesome ” Hyman said. ” It’s a good feeling. To be able to score that goal, to get the lead after being down 3-0 , is pretty cool. What a win for us to end a losing streak , coming back like we did on a Saturday night against Montreal, it’s a good feeling “…

” When it’s 3-0 and they’ve got to turn the music on loud because they’re scared what the fans will say , that’s not a great feeling ” Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said. ” I thought we were really prepared , we really jumped , but it just goes to show you when you’re young sometimes and it’s a big game , you get a little sometimes off-kilter when you shouldn’t “…

” It’s a good win for our team ” Toronto coach Mike Babcock said. ” When it’s 3-0 and they’ve got to turn the music on loud because they’re scared what the fans will say, it’s not a good feeling. I thought we were really prepared, but it goes to show you when you’re young and it’s a big game, you get a little off kilter sometimes when you shouldn’t. Just steady on the rudder and get it done.”

10:34 A.M. Kapanen makes himself known …

Leafs kick ass in  under two minute spree !!! … Pick up 2 points in the stratosphere to keep pace … Finally find twine on the power play … Winning 5 – 2  over Colorado …

Toronto broke things open in the second with three power-play goals over a 1:49 span to make it a 4-1 contest. It was tied for the fifth-fastest three-goal , power-play effort by the Maple Leafs in a regular-season game since 1933-34.

They were worried about the altitude. The schedule didn’t afford the Toronto Maple Leafs an opportunity to hold an off-day practice in the Mile High City , and Mike Babcock had no trouble spotting the affects of oxygen depletion in his group during a quick 18-minute twirl on the morning of Tuesday’s game.

“ If you saw , it wasn’t that pretty ” he said. “ Never usually is ”.

The plan was simple : Keep the early shifts short , change lines often and don’t get lured into a track meet with the Colorado Avalanche.

It was a plan adhered to by every member of the Leafs except Kasperi Kapanen , who faced no resistance from the thin air or weakened lungs while racing to breakaways on each of his first two shifts.

“ It wasn’t a problem ” he said.

No kidding. The Finn’s outrageous speed was the reason Toronto built an early 1-0 lead , with Auston Matthews sending him free on an alley-oop pass for a counter-strike after the Leafs were hemmed in their own zone for a long stretch.

“ He can obviously fly ” said Matthews. “ He’s tough to catch when you’re toe-to-toe with him , he can really create separation ”…

Now everyone just keep this goin’ right into the playoffs … Against the top teams , and , as there’s a good chance we’re gonna face them in the first round … ESPECIALLY our recent nemesis … Boston !!! …

David Quinn’s heart rate accelerated every time one of the guilty players glided to the penalty box, and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ superstar-stacked power-play unit hopped the boards to pepper the rookie head coach’s inexperienced second-string goalie with cold, black rubber.

Of the season-high 56 shots the visitors fired toward Alexandar Georgiev’s net,

23 arrived on the Leafs’ four action-packed man-advantages. The rebuilding Rangers , who slipped out the back door with a 4-1 victory Sunday , only had one power play of their own.

Georgiev celebrated his 23rd birthday with the busiest regulation victory ( 55 saves ) by a goaltender in Rangers history.

It should’ve been a b-day spanking for the Bulgarian backup.

“ That’s a scary , scary team. They have high-end talent , they can beat you one-on-one , but, boy,  I thought we did a good job clearing the net-front out ” Quinn said.

“ This is going to sound insane : I thought we actually defended real well tonight. You look at that shot total [ 56-30 ] , and I look like a complete idiot ”…

Join the club.

1StarAlexWe all feel like idiots trying to make sense of the ineffectiveness of Toronto’s stacked-up power play. Three 30-goal centremen , a winger who’s putting up primary assists like Magic Johnson in his prime , and the NHL’s second-highest-scoring defenceman keep drawing blanks.

A quintet that looks so good on paper ends up crumpled in a waste basket night after night and it’s a head-scratcher.

Hockey Night in Canada’s cameras caught Mike Babcock and power-play chief Jim Hiller engaged in a heated discussion on their Bell Centre bench as the PP , normally a frightening situation for their opponents , went 0-for-3. Leading the skipper to state the obvious …

“ It wasn’t very good ” Babcock said.

GeezASS ! Babs … Ya think ?!!! …

John Tavares ( eight shots on those man advantages , no luck ) felt the puck movement was sharper and the cogs were more in sync.

“ With the skill we have , we expect to score on at least one of those chances if not more ” Tavares said. “ I mean , 55 saves , I don’t think there’s really much else to be said. We did a lot. We just didn’t finish our chances ”…

Again ! … YA THINK ?!!! …

1aJoseph93Reminds me of a ‘ Twine Minder ‘ of the past , before we picked him up shortly after , when he stood on his head in the playoffs , way back when , facing 61 shots in what remained ‘ anyone’s game throughout !!! … Old CuJo … Curtis Joseph …

And for the final ” Ya think ?!!! “… “ Their goaltender stole the show ” Kadri shrugged after a personal 12-shot performance.

And the kid’s only 23 years old !!! … Against the fire power of the three line Leafs !!! … With ample penalty power plays for Toronto …

23AlexContrary to my thoughts on tuning in the Leafs more often , I didn’t watch this game … But as a long retired goaltender , I would have liked to have seen this one … Even bein’ on the short end of the stick , I always appreciate a fine performance from one of the brethren …

Hats off to ya Alex …
