An amusing one from AT …

In this 24 / 7 world we live in , I personally don’t see much point in the concept of Daylight Savings Time switching either … It does tend to throw one’s ‘ body clock ‘ off … But it only ever took me one 24 hour period to click over and that would be it …

As the decades passed by , it never bothered me at all … With technology , and mass production farming and such … lack of daylight is no longer a problem …

Don Sucher has a bit more to say about the subject tho ;

I hate Daylight Savings Time. You hate Daylight Savings Time. But so what ? No one really cares any longer what you or I like , don’t like , love or absolutely despise.

The arguments for DST — those of it saving energy, making kids safer on their way to school , helping the farmer plow his fields etc. etc. — all have proved unreliable at best, and for the most part out and out incorrect. ( That’s why the most often stated reason for DST has over the years constantly been changing ).

Getting rid of this circadian rhythm disruptor may seem hopeless , and any energy directed to that end a total waste. But I have a suggestion that may just finally do it !

Let’s pass the word that President Trump favors DST. Tell that to everyone we meet — and lets do so while wearing bright red MAGA caps.

If we do this within seven days every liberal , every congressperson with a ” D ” after their name and almost half with an ” R “, will be against it. They will despise it. They will say it was done with Russian Collusion. That it is anti woman , anti black , anti gay , anti the sun coming up tomorrow. And lickety-split it will be gone.

Then we can keep wearing the caps , but we’ll be able to do so without looking bleary eyed.

What do you say , folks ? With me on this ?…

AG David Lametti could be SNC-Lavalin’s last hope …

LastHope

The hastily decided , strategic quick pick for a Liberal replacement Attorney General , David Lametti , may be the only person in Canada who can save the Montreal-based engineering firm from criminal prosecution.

As attorney general , Lametti has the ( sole INDEPENDENT !!! Yeah … SURE !!! ) power to decide whether the company should be able to access a deferred prosecution agreement ( Which was already taken into consideration from the Director of Public Prosecutions and denied , then Wilson-Raybould reviewed , and concurred with that decision ) … which would stay those criminal proceedings.

The issue of SNC-Lavalin and a DPA is at the centre of the current Liberal government political scandal. Lametti’s predecessor , Jody Wilson-Raybould , said that when she was attorney general she had closed the book on that option , refusing to overrule Director of Public Prosecutions Kathleen Roussel’s decision that a DPA wouldn’t be appropriate in SNC-Lavalin’s case.

That’s where all efforts at ‘ suggesting ‘ the DPA option should have ceased …

EvilForce

However , Lametti , despite the ongoing controversy , has indicated he hasn’t ruled out that option … No ?! … Really ?!! … But he also hasn’t indicated when a decision may come ( Most likely to be strategically timed in an attempt to ensure insufficient time for actual ‘ Justice ‘ to properly correct that unethical injustice ) , or whether he is open to reconsider the case ( C’mon … THAT’S inevitable !!! … That’s why the boss , Junior , put him in the job !!! ) , something that had been suggested to Wilson-Raybould by officials in the PMO. ( A pertinent point she was hounded on continuously by Butts , Junior , and several lessor others , as well as the FINANCE MINISTER , Bill Morneau …

Now here’s something that I didn’t come across Friday or yesterday … Wonder why that is ?!!! … Another institutional door had been shut on the Liberals , properly , by a non partisan , independently empowered individual …

On Friday , federal Judge Catherine Kane ruled against SNC-Lavalin’s bid to seek a DPA and avoid criminal proceedings , writing that ” prosecutorial discretion is not subject to judicial review , except for abuse of power “…

SNC-Lavalin faces charges of fraud and corruption in connection with millions of dollars of payments made to Libyan government officials between 2001 and 2011 …

Now think about this folks … This has been discovered at the time of the last 2 years of Jean Chretien’s tenure at the helm … all 2 years / 2 months of Paul Martin’s short lived go at at it ( Both … Liberals ) … 9 years plus of Stephen Harper’s Conservative Leadership ( Not wanting to touch it due to KBec votes , I’m sure ! ) … And , finally , the inept Selfie King tripped up and couldn’t hold off Madam Justice any longer ! ) … … Meaning this has been going on since , and during , all these administrations ( Interesting that Wernick is the sole individual that was present and very near the situation at all times ) and yet the case is currently in the ‘ preliminary hearing stage ‘ !!! … And the judge is expected to rule ‘ soon ‘ on whether it should proceed to trial !!! …

Methinks that these ‘ honourable ( More like laughable ) individuals in Ottawa ‘ should reacquaint themselves with the definition of the word ‘ soon ‘ ! …

If that were to happen , the only path to avoid prosecution would be through Lametti , who as attorney general oversees the director of public prosecutions. He can issue directives on any specific prosecution , meaning he could direct federal prosecutors to negotiate a deferred prosecution agreement.

These agreements allow companies accused of certain economic offences — such as bribery , fraud and corruption — to be spared criminal charges. Instead , they could admit wrongdoing ( Say ‘ Yes , I’m a criminal ) and pay a financial penalty ( And avoid society’s penalty of those responsible going to jail  and no Government goodies for 10 years ).

There are a number of factors that Lametti might consider when deciding whether SNC-Lavalin qualifies for a DPA. Those include :

  • The nature and gravity of the act and its impact on any victim.
  • Whether the company has taken disciplinary action.
  • Whether the organization has made reparations.
  • I’ll put in my own here : Whether or not he wants to have a long stay or a short one at the prestigious post of Attorney General / Justice Minister.

Now here is what the Liberals , and especially Junior ( Who loves globe trotting around the world apologizing to people and promoting ‘ sunny ways ‘ ) are banking on … Their belief that when it comes to making a decision on a DPA , that can be taken by the attorney general up until the very last minute of a trial.

I wonder if anyone has looked into the ‘ legality ‘ of that ? …

GrandMoffButts

Trudeau’s former principal secretary Gerald Butts , in his testimony before the justice committee , said according to the briefings he had received , the attorney general was obligated to bring ” fresh eyes ” every time new evidence arose , up until a verdict on the case is rendered … That’s Gerry … And recall that he frequently stated to the committee that ” Aw shucks , I’m not a lawyer “… And also … No new evidence had arisen at that point , up to the present , for that matter …

So unless Lametti can come up with actual , factual ‘ new evidence ‘ , it’ll be entertaining to see how he inevitably does as Junior wishes …

Craig Martin Scott , a York University law professor , agreed that there is nothing to preclude the attorney general from intervening at any point , up until the verdict. But it may be impractical for the new attorney general , or any attorney general , to keep abreast of a case for that period of time , he said. No system can work with the AG constantly being on watch over multiple files as to whether they’re going to intervene “… Suggestions by Trudeau and Butts that the file remains open just invited the kind of pressure alleged by Wilson-Raybould , he said

” To say that the AG has the same kind of active duty to constantly be keeping in mind a file in order to determine [ do they ] intervene with the prosecutors , that just doesn’t follow. “

Ah … Earth to Craig !!! .. Come in Craig ! … This reality calling … Right now , the SNC-Lavalin file ( DPA option ) is the ONLY file he has been told to concentrate on !!! … You still attached to your placenta or what ?! …

What C.M. Scott stated above is important … Does Canada need an AG with a mind preoccupied with one singular case , with all the other responsibilities and ongoing issues he’s tasked with , or one that acknowledges the time already spent on this particular case , combined with the FACT that the accused has admitted guilt , and move on …

He goes on to state … ” It means that people can keep taking a run at the AG behind the scenes through the government cabinet structure. So it just does not make policy sense and it doesn’t make practical sense to say the AG has the same continual duty to continually keep in mind the case as the prosecutors “…

I like this guy !!!… Makes many valid points ! …

Butts also testified that senior government officials raised the idea with Wilson-Raybould to seek external legal advice on the matter , suggesting seeking out someone like former Supreme Court Justice Beverley McLaughlin … ” What exactly did they think they were going to do ? ” said Scott … ” Get some kind of named jurist to come in and tutor the AG and her legal team ? … That felt really almost condescending “…

University of British Columbia assistant professor Andrew Martin , who specializes in legal ethics , pipes in with …   ” That was just a way of the government saying : ” I’m going to bug you , until you say what I want “… ” The only reason to suggest to get an outside opinion is that ( Hopefully that opinion says … ) she’s wrong “…

Ah yes … I wonder what tantalizing nuggets will be dug up for Monday morning’s headlines … Will the perennial ‘ Old Boys’ Troopers ‘ of shady backroom deals soldier on … Will Lord Lametti exercise the will of the Evil Emperor , J ‘ Troode – O …

Or  will the Justice Minister prevail ? …

JodyJustice

Stay tuned … And the way this nonsense is going … Being ‘ tuned ‘ as we were way back when Star Wars premiered in the theaters in ’77 , wouldn’t be a bad idea either ! …
