Need a Hanky Junior ? …

Justin Trudeau is well-practiced at saying sorry.

Since coming to power in 2015 , he and his government have offered formal apologies to Indigenous peoples for the unjust 1864 executions of six Tsilhqot’in chiefs … To LGBT civil servants who were targeted for their sexuality … And to the world at large for Canada’s decision to turn away Sikh , Muslim and Hindu immigrants aboard the Komagata Maru in 1914 … And Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany travelling on the MS St. Louis in 1939 …

Shit Junior !!! … Why haven’t ya apologized to the US for takin’ away their favorite pastime trophy for two years straight when the Jays won back to back World Series ?!!! …

He;s at it again today !!! … He’s en route to Iqaluit to seek forgiveness for the way the country mistreated Inuit suffering from tuberculosis until the 1960s , forcibly sending them south for treatment where many died , their fates unknown to the families they left behind ..

.Make , then , what you will of Trudeau’s regrets-I’ve-had-a-few news conference on the SNC-Lavalin affair early this morning in Ottawa.

With all the major players now having had their moment on the stage, and a he-said, she-said narrative in place, the Liberals are clearly hoping that both media and public are ready to move on.

THAT is his last faint hope … The short memories of the electorate …The electorate that the Liberal party , much like the Democrats of our southern neighbour , work hard to stock up on with their open door policy to easily persuaded droves of people with little understanding of complicated politics …

The SNC-Lavalin story has now gone global, receiving prominent play on the websites of the U.K.’s Guardian, in the New York Times and Washington Post, and on Al Jazeeraand the BBC.

The biggest political crisis of Justin Trudeau’s career isn’t quite up there with Alex Trebek’s cancer diagnosis — 1.3 million hits over the past 24 hours, according to Google — let alone Kylie Jenner becoming a billionaire, with 3.82 million results.

But even if the prime minister won’t apologize, he’s surely sorry.

And surely a sorry ass excuse for a Prime Minister …

Tony read my mind !!! …

I light of all the ‘ disclosure ‘ I’ve witnessed while watching these procedings  … Contrary to one of the five Liberal members on the committee  , who upon hearing Wernick’s SECOND testimony , stated at the media scrum after ” There ya have it … Now we KNOW there was nothing untoward about it ! “…

It basically , thus far , comes down to this … As Anthony Furey from the Toronto Sun clearly puts it ;

Who do you believe : Jody Wilson-Raybould or Justin Trudeau , Gerald Butts and Michael Wernick ? That’s the question Canadians face right now. And maybe even RCMP investigators.

In response to Wilson-Raybould’s bombshell testimony last week , Butts entered the public square Wednesday morning to tell his side of the story. He denied her claims that he – or anyone else – had ever tried to pressure or direct the former Attorney General on the SNC-Lavalin file.

The specifics matter a great deal , because if someone in the PMO had done this it would not only be political damaging to the Trudeau brand but also potentially legally damaging to Butts and others. It’s called obstruction of justice.

So what were the specifics of Butts’ testimony ? He didn’t really have any. Wilson-Raybould made a methodical description of dozens of interactions with PMO officials where she felt pressured , quoting from text messages and detailed notes she’d made right at the time. Butts instead spoke in terms of generalities. He simply stated there was no way he would have done those things , that they were out of character and not how he and others conducted themselves.

In one particular line that caused an uproar on social media , Butts stated “ I am fully aware that two people can experience the same events differently ”… It was like Trudeau’s rationale for the Kokanee Grope , where a woman said he grabbed her.

The problem is a matter this serious can’t be chalked up to a difference of perspectives. Lawyers and judges and juries like to get to the bottom of things. They want to know who said what to whom and when they said it. That’s what Canadians need to know in this case and Butts only muddied the waters , he didn’t clarify things.

It now comes down to a question of credibility. And right now Wilson-Raybould has the advantage. The detailed notes. The calm and cool composure. The sense that there’s nothing really motivating her besides standing up on a matter of principle.

Whereas Butts and the gang ? They’re offering vague assurances that seem geared to save themselves – both from losing political power and from legal repercussions.

Plus there was a touch of undermining her character thrown in for good measure. “ I learned a tremendous amount from her. I have a lot of respect for her. This is a very unfortunate series of events ” he said , with the tone at the end being that she had previously behaved like a respectable person yet now she’s sadly gone off the rails.

That said , as much as Butts’ performance failed to convince , it was steps above the cringeworthy return of Michael Wernick , the clerk of the privy council.

LapelPinPost

Wernick , who last week warned of potential assassinations and the “ vomitorium ” of social media , began his testimony Wednesday afternoon by complaining about how people were mean to him on Twitter and laughably claimed it was “ intimidation of a witness ”…

I’ll interject on Tony here and add ; Rather ironic that he , Wernik , who cite ‘ intimidation of a witness ‘ when Jody is actually stating this is exactly what she felt from him with his constant and repeated efforts to get her to alter her final decision … Back to Tony …

The supposedly non-partisan public servant was indignant that he’d been labeled as partisan , yet didn’t seem fazed when NDP MP Murray Rankin told him about how it was retired public servants who told him they were ashamed of Wernick.

What was interesting though is while Butts was insistent there was no inappropriate pressure on Wilson-Raybould , Wernick basically acknowledged it all happened but continued to insist it was just “ lawful advocacy ”.

Plus Butts said he didn’t know Wilson-Raybould had made her final decision on Lavalin until last week but Wernick said he knew back in September.

How can two senior people who work closely together be offside on this ?

There’s a credibility problem here and it’s not with Wilson-Raybould , who has already volunteered to return to testify again.

The saga continues. And it must. We still need answers.

Other than adding my little note , Tony summed it up quite well … Goes to show ya … There’s hope for a few in the media …

Junior’s pathetic attempt …

This was not an apology , it was a lie.

Justin lied about “ Jobs Jobs Jobs ”.

He lied about Jody Wilson-Raybould not making her concerns known.

He lied about SNC-Lavalin leaving.

He lied that the Liberal Party’s election chances in Quebec was not the single biggest motivator behind his government’s persistent campaign of judicial interference.

He lied when he dully stated that no interference had taken place.

He lied to all of Canada.

And then this from Conservative Treehouse …

Justin is in Trouble and Look Who Pops Up in Canada , Again …

It does not appear accidental that each time Justin from Canada starts finding himself in a wee bit ‘o trouble , serious trouble … The same person happens to show up. In June 2017 , Justin was being challenged with a new NAFTA trade agreement … And former President Obama showed up while delivering a speech to the Board of Trade in Montreal.

Fast forward to today …  March 2019 – the Canadian economy has halted ; Justin from Canada is embroiled in a growing bribery , corruption and obstruction of justice scandal around SNC-Lavin ; and immediately after he loses two cabinet ministers … Former President Obama shows up to deliver a speech to the Board of Trade in Vancouver :

Serendipitous domestic timing for an Obama visit , as the ideological political-wagons are circling to defend Justin from Canada.

Coincidentally , nudge-nudge/wink-wink/say-no-more … Say no more … After a coaching/not-coaching session , Justin from Canada has delivered a heavily controlled press conference on the obstruction scandal …

Nothing sincerely conveys ‘ contrition ‘ when you HAVE TO READ a carefully written ‘ script ‘ composed by some non elected spin doctor , rather than speak true words from your conscience …

I wonder who’s pickin’ up the tab between these two ‘ Global Socialists ‘ ? …

Butts try to ‘ sell ‘ cabinet shuffle ‘… Fails miserably …

It was concern over maintaining the reconciliation momentum that led Trudeau to move Wilson-Raybould from Justice to Indigenous Services , said Butts.

Yeah … Right Gerry … That ‘splains it …

Jane Philpott , who was an admired Indigenous Services minister , had to be moved to Treasury Board to replace the outgoing Scott Brison , and , in Trudeau’s ( Junior in Wonderland’s ) mind , Wilson-Raybould was the perfect fit to replace her , said Butts.

No , in Gerry’s ‘ plotting strategically ‘ mind , HE figured it was the ‘ perfect fix ‘…

” [ Trudeau ] wanted a person in Indigenous Services who would send a strong signal that the work would keep going at the same pace , and that the file would have the same personal prominence for him ” he said.

But it was something Wilson-Raybould just couldn’t accept.

” She said she had spent her life opposed to the Indian Act and couldn’t be in charge of the programs administered under its authority ” said Butts.

Now , Butts would have a reasonable point on feigning ‘ astonishment over ‘ refusing a cabinet position ‘ , in over 30 years of experience , IF that was the usual first opportunity for someone or it was considered a ‘ promotion ‘ to a more critical , therefore ‘ prestigious ‘, head of ministry …

This , Attorney general of Canada to Veteran’s Affairs , or pretty much any other , would be instantly received as a ‘ demotion ‘… They all should be viewed as important , they are individual ministries after all … But let’s face it … The Finance Minister is one of the two at the top , and is most often a valued prerequisite for the resume of a potential leadership bid for a shot at Prime Minister , and the other is the Justice Minister / Attorney General which goes even further and SHOULD have powers , independent to the rest of the Cabinet ! … That portfolio is the one entrusted to enact the legislation that the ‘ voted in ‘ representatives finally getting around to implement …

Trudeau then moved Wilson-Raybould to Veterans Affairs because he couldn’t allow Wilson-Raybould to set a precedent by staying in her existing portfolio after refusing a move , said Butts.

Butts said that , in hindsight , he should have expected her decision to reject the move to Indigenous Services.

Over its 140 years , the Indian Act has been used to force children to attend residential schools , outlaw religious practices and forbid First Nations people from leaving reserves without a permit.

The Indian Act banned Wilson-Raybould people’s potlatches and forbade women from voting and serving on their band councils. The legislation continues to discriminate against women on the issue of passing on status to descendants , she said.

Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond , director of the University of British Columbia’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre ” said ” It would be akin to asking Nelson Mandela to administer apartheid “…

Essentially , Crown-Indigenous Relations was created to deal primarily with laws , policies and negotiations on moving First Nations out from under the Indian Act , while Indigenous Services was created to manage the Indian Act.

The whole scam MAY have worked if they offered Jody a position in the former , and has the mandate to ‘ dismantle ‘ the latter …

Big Chief Bill Wilson , Wilson-Raybould’s father , and a prominent First Nations leader from British Columbia , said ” What he proposed in his abysmal ignorance was ‘ Let’s make her the distributor of welfare ‘ “.

With any luck , this thing will just keep expanding and even the typically ‘ unenlightened ‘ voter , who buys into so much ‘ political packaging ‘ and ‘ nifty slogans ‘ sees this for what it is … BULLSHIT !!! …

And as Christmas approaches at the end of this year , Junior will have all the time he wants to dress up in foreign lands and take unlimited selfies with his family …

And we can have someone , somewhat , competent attempting to run the country …
