CTV and Bell Media are both part of Bell Canada , Canada’s largest media and telecommunications company , which is directly impacted by the CRTC decision and has frequently been at odds with the regulatory agency …

The Globe reported that after CRTC chairman Jean-Pierre Blais appeared on Bell Media’s Business News Network in the afternoon , Crull called CTV News president Wendy Freeman and demanded he be kept off all further coverage that day … Segments featuring Blais were dropped from Bell Media channels until the CTV flagship evening news broadcast with Lisa LaFlamme , after senior editors and correspondents decided there was no way to properly cover the CRTC decision without footage of the commission’s chairman …

Blais rebuked Bell Media’s president in a sharply worded statement Wednesday after the allegations in the Globe story became public , saying that defending journalistic independence was of paramount importance …

In his ‘ mea culpa ‘ Wednesday , Crull apologized for meddling in the editorial process and said CTV’s ‘ strong and straightforward reaction ‘ to his ‘ intrusion ‘ convinced him of the quality of the network’s journalism …

He added that he  ‘ re-learned a valuable lesson ‘ about staying out of editorial decisions ‘ from the best news team in the business ‘ …

Basically … Since CTV stood up to the boss and told him … ‘ There’s LAWS in this country that stipulate you can’t dictate to us how we do our job ! ‘ … His ‘ mea culpa ‘ was to realize he had better suck up real good or he may lose HIS highly over paid job !!! …
